Joyce Faylene Beard
Joyce Faylene Beard has been a storyteller most of her life. But lost in her widowhood after 35 years of marriage, the words stopped coming. She abandoned her writing, leaving unfinished pages of her books in folders on her table and her computer, including her book about cleaning a home for hospitality.
Her life changed on a mission trip to a village in Ghana, Africa, when she realized there were stories that needed to be told.
Her declaration, adopted upon returning to the US, now hangs on the wall of the writers’ den:
“Today, I stop running, and I start writing. I will be faithful to this assignment. I will fulfill my destiny, whatever the cost.
Joyce Faylene married Roland Beard in 2017 and joined him in his missionary work in the Philippines. His family of friends at the Institute for Foundational Learning compound (IFL) became her family, too. She fell in love with the children, just as she had with those in Ghana. As she helped edit her husband’s writings, her own stories about the adventurous orphans, her long-abandoned cleaning book, and her ideas for future books re-emerged. Roland’s love brought her creativity back to life.
“The Man and His Lovely” enjoy walking the paths on the property they call “Gateway” in Bear Creek, North Carolina. Their nested hearts enjoy their children, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, as well as the large family on the other side of the globe!
She writes, blogs on Substack, and privately answers his love notes (sweet!).
“"Writing with love and purpose.”
